Abstract: The city of Rome, usually mentioned for its history, art and architectonical marvels, is also a metropolitan area that is considered the first town in Italy for extension of agricultural area. This chapter provides a detailed description of the agricultural landscape of the city of Rome. Primarily based on the Istat 2010 Census data, it describes its most common crop varieties and its production structure, highlighting its specificities in comparison to the agricultural landscape of the wider provincial and regional areas. The emerging picture is one of a dynamic sector, deeply influenced by the nearby metropolitan area, which has adapted to the surrounding environment, nonetheless maintaining its own distinctive features. The description of this complex productive system is completed by a detailed overview of the organisation and management of its businesses of the features of the labour market in the agriculture segment.
