Abstract: This paper presents the scientific and cultural motivations behind the desire, in such a difficult period for the Italian higher education system, to found a new journal on economic and social history. The scope of this editorial initiative is to cover a broad historical period ranging from medieval times to the contemporary era, with an international outlook and a particular sensitivity for the problems that are typical of modern society. Hopefully it will serve to stimulate a multidisciplinary debate, particularly with economist and historians. The overall aim to provide an instrument capable of contributing to the work and exchanges of ideas across the wider scientific community.
