Abstract: TECHNOLOGY, SPACE AND SOCIETY, REFLECTIONS ON URBAN INFRASTRUCTURES IN ROME. 1870-1922   Contemporary Roman history is often viewed through the history of urban planning history. This articles inspects Roman history with a looser approach to urban planning and concentrates more on technical infrastructures as these allow us to understand the evolution of the urban area. This, in turn, reflects the powers at play in the city and the social forces, both of which provide us with an opportunity to reassess the importance of urban planning. The bond between a city’s technical modernity and the organization of powers in the new capital of the kingdom lies at the center of this work.
