Abstract: This paper illustrates the preliminary phases and the criteria applied by an initiative carried out on behalf of the Rome Special Office for Archeology to survey and promote the Testaccio area. The character of the project has at this stage already been largely defined and is on it’s way to completion: between 2009 and 2012 a local itinerary was presented, along with a website which offers a multimedia itinerary; furthermore, work has been done on the recovery of the ruins around the Porticus Aemilia along with further archeological surveys on the site of a planned urban park, while part of the archeological area of the Nuovo Mercato Testaccio is being prepared for opening to the public, and will include a didactic area for children.
