Abstract: CARDINAL MARCELLO LANTE’S ACTIVITY AS A PATRON: A PREVIUSLY UNPUBLISHED INVENTORY Marcello Lante, ordained cardinal in 1606 by pope Paul V, associated his name to a number of restorations and church, hospitals, and convent constructions which were realized, in the years going from the Borghese papacy to the pontificated of Innocent X, by artists spacing along the ample boundaries of the turn of the century’s classicism. The study of Lante’s commissions, the careful analysis of the documents found in the family archives, as well as the examination of the figure of a refined art collector and an art counselor to the Borghese family, the character of a man having numerous offices by the other members and leading figures of the clergy.
