Abstract: BORGHETTO TRIONFALE: BIRTH AND EVOLUTION OF A WORKING CLASS SUBURB (1885-1905) In 1885, Banca Tiberina, The Italian Bureau for Construction and Companies and the Valle dell’Inferno road transportation Consortium,, submit to City Hall a project for the construction of a suburb in an area outside the city-planning scheme in a perimeter located within Prati di Castello, the Valle dell’Inferno ditch and Monti della Creta. The construction of Borghetto Trionfale, a typical densely populated neighborhood on the outskirts begins immediately even with the City Hall’s approval missing. With the above company filing for bankruptcy, its principal creditor, the Bank of Italy inherits the property of all constructing grounds as well as the structure of certain buildings situated in that area. In 1901, an agreement written up by the Bank of Italy and stipulated with the City Hall of Rome settles all outstanding matters regarding the arrangement of the road network as well as laying the foundations for the construction of the new urban area.
