Abstract:  THE SINGER GIACINTO FONTANNA, OR FARFALLINO, AD HIS CAREER IN THE THEATERS OF ROME Giacinto Fontana, also known as “Farfallino” (little butterfly), was one of the mopst castratos in the Roman theatrical scene at the beginning of the eighteenth century. For more than two decades (1712-1735). Fontana was present at the opening or re-opening of every theater including Capranica, Alibert, Argentina and Tordinona. Famous composers such as A. Scarlatti, Vinci, Gasparini, Vivaldi, Sarro, Bononcini, Feo and Porpora wrote operas for him. The article concentrates on the biographical aspects of the life and career of Giacinto Fontana (b. Perugia 3.2.1692- d. 11.6.1739) in relation to his instruction and vocal technique.
