Abstract: ROME AND THE JUBILEE: ITS UNIVERSALISM IN RELATION TO CITYLIFE BETWEEN MIDDLE AGES AND MODERN TIMES (1300-1825) The article takes into account the extended relationship between the universal dimension of the Roman Jubilee and the influence that such an event had on everyday life in Rome. Thanks to the many treatises as well as more attentive reading of the most recent Italian and international bibliography regarding the exercise of pilgrimages, it is easier to identify elements both of continuity and rupture in the presentation and the chronicle of the Holy Years, likewise. The crucial points seem to be the doctrinal and devotional reconstruction of the Counter reform that reinstates the Christian Jubilee and the Enlightenment that, together with the Revolution, provokes the temporary cancellation of this event.
