Abstract: This article recreates a picture of Rome in the years immediately following the Second World
War by looking at the ‘defascistisation’ of roman society and institutions. The article looks at the
authorities set up to carry out the purge, namely the commissions appointed by the Allies, the
High Court of Justice, special sections of the Assize Courts, and the Military Tribunal.
