Abstract: This paper is presented in two sections. The first section reviews some of the many themes covered by historians on the relationship between fascism and the Church. In the second section attention is focused on the situation in Rome, drawing on available historical research and on a reading of the “Bollettino del Clero Romano”, the official organ for the proclamations of the Vicariate and, during the years covered in this study, the ‘mouthpiece’ of Cardinal Vicar Francesco Marchetti Selvaggiani.
