Abstract: This article aims to take a fresh look at the provincial reorganisation that, more than any
other Italian region, affected Lazio between the end of 1926 and the beginning of 1927. Such a
significant administrative innovation had a number of consequences, not all of which were positive
for what was an established territorial environment. The article also analyses the principle
and most influential effects of this change in Rome as well as in Viterbo, Frosinone, and Rieti.
