Abstract: This paper aims to describe the features of some cities visited by Alfieri during his life and described in his autobiography titled Vita. Written between 1790 and 1803, Alfieri’s autobiography is the story of the poetic vocation of a man who, driven by a constant urge to travel, can find fulfilment only when he transposes his feelings in tragic poetry. Following the stages of his long and exciting travels, it’s possible to find in the text numerous passages in which the author gives a clear picture of various places. These are observed from the outside in their landscape and urban contexts, lived from the inside in their social reality, and analyzed from the top, considering the type of government and the political administration. This paper will analyze a few examples.
