Abstract: There are key figures that for the role played in crucial moments of history apparently are useful in dealing with historiographic reflections on a certain period or a particular issue. That of Cesare Albertini (1874-1951), though much discussed for several reasons, probably is one of them. Albertini was in fact a protagonist of the Milanese town planning over the fascism, in his leading the drawing up of the town planning scheme of 1934. He was the editor of La Casa and published a considerable number of writings about the main town planning issues arisen in the period between the two wars. He participated in many conferences, in Italy and Europe, debating the future of the town and the territory. For these reasons, the essay aims to maintain that a critical biography of Albertini might offer a significant contribution to the urban history of Milan while representing an interesting point of view on the development of the Italian and international modern town planning culture.
