Abstract: The project of Museum of Carpi is placed in a wider project of restoration of the city Museums and, more in general terms, destination of the Palace Pio, like monumental structure and of cultural attraction of a city that it is investing in the valorisation of own cultural works, with the territorial promotion. This contribution places the objective to analyze the project methodology and the scientific search for the museum that have carried to the definition of the Museum of the City, that it has been inaugurated 15 March 2008. A museum of the city for Carpi is an interesting cue of search regarding the representation of a city of medium dimensions, which it is Carpi, and can therefore offer topics and various answers to the museums of the city today more diffuse, than they refer to city of great dimensions generally, of very greater historical importance of our case. The project, started in 2002 with a substantial financing of the Emilia Romagna with a fundamental search for Carpi on the Palace Pio and its role in the cultural and social life of the city and not only, has seen to activate, everyone for own competences in integrated way, beyond 50 specialists who have taken care themselves: to define the concept of museum of the city and to give a scientific valence to the project; to realize the exposition project; to define a system of co-ordinate communication and visual identity, than integral the didactics parts of the itinerary with the concept of museum and the wider idea of the architectonic complex (Palazzo dei Pio) and the city (Carpi) from which the Museum of the City it is born.
