La nuova forma della Capitale: l'apertura del tunnel del Quirinale e il Palazzo del Drago

pp.167-179, DOI 10.17426/17337

Articoli

Abstract: This study reconstructs the events relative to the area in front of the north entrance of the tunnel by means of the controversy that arose with prince Filippo del Drago, owner of the palace of the same name. It does so on the basis of documentary and iconographic sources from the Capitoline Historic Archives which have only recently been catalogued. Expropriated and partially demolished following the boring of the Quirinale hill, the palazzo remained unfi nished for a number of years due to the administration’s uncertainty concerning the use of that city space. Forced to compensate the prince as long as he was denied permission to reconstruct the front of his palazzo, the city of Rome preferred to resolve the question by adopting the only solution that would permit the immediate cessation of the payments.
