Abstract: This research is about the choice of Brescia municipality to introduce methane in town in post Second World War period. The new energizer resource, from Corteaggiore, was employed for houses, industries and public services. Brescia was one of the “early” towns to use exclusively methane in northern Italy. The municipality administrators and the mayor, Bruno Boni, were able to overcome fear and anxiety of the people about the new gas. In fact, many people were scared about accidents like that which had happened near the small town of Bordolano where a methane shaft had erupted. After that, Brescia administrators made a deal with Agip to repart the commercial segment: Asm (Brescia municipal agency) became the managment of methane local distribution to houses; Agip the one for industries. So Brescia municipality and Agip (the president Enrico Mattei and Bruno Boni were good friends) had both a substantial income in their budgets. In addition to than, the local administration and Democrazia Cristiana (which was Mattei’s and Boni’s political party) managed to gain further electoral consensus.
