Abstract: The paper attempts to provide an understanding of the logistical and strategic transformations that concerned Verona during the Austrian domination (1814-1866), when the city turned into the army stronghold. Verona, indeed, became a logistical centre able to fulfill the needs of one hundred thousand armed soldiers. After 1848 there were steadily over 20.000 soldiers, since civil population was around 50.000 citizens. It entailed an increasing consumer goods demand and affected the urban economy greatly.
