Note e discussioni

Abstract:  Knowledge and enhancement of the religious architectural heritage, whether in use or abandoned, constitute themes of great interest, being currently the object of a wide debate and a multidisciplinary literature. Cultural and social responsibilities require a set of knowledge and skills that must take into account the normative and pastoral instructions and community occurrences. It is therefore necessary to share a reflection on the historical and cultural values of sacred architecture in order to identify consolidated and innovative methods and suitable processes to ensure the conservation and proper utilization of this heritage. This critical analysis aims at the identification of the safeguard policies implemented by the main international organisms, together with an extensive review of the literature on the religious architectural heritage, especially as regards recent innovative studies addressing the themes of regeneration and reuse in relation to the contemporary society, and the preservation of religious assets in urban areas.
