Abstract: In the frame of the large cities transformation movement during the early modern period, there were numerous town planning operations. These operations took place in the whole territory and were wether simple extensions of the urban frame, or creations of new towns. Nowadays, we have informations on the origins of these various urban creations but we do not know a lot about the forms of administration of these new urban features. The extension plan that took place in Marseille from 1666 gives us an interesting perspective on the history of urban growth processes in the early modern period. Studying the creation of the Bureau de l’Agrandissement, special institution in charge of the administration for this urban fabric, enables us to have a better understanding on the issues and forms of these urban changes, common to all France during the Ancien Regime. Beyond the city, the city magistrates are also aiming to manage and administrate the citizens and their urban behaviors.
