Abstract: The article traces the planning phase of the exposition, focusing on the local reworking of organizational models and solutions which were seen as the most advanced ever tried in Italy or abroad. Furthermore, it describes the configuration of the event, a synthesis of ideas which the promoters had regarding the city and the nation’s prospects for economic development. The 1904 exposition played a crucial role in the redefinition of Brescia’s image as an industrial city, celebrating the results which had been achieved with a spectacular event. The ephemeral city built on the Cidneo hills profoundly influenced architectural taste, favoring the success of Liberty style across the province. This was the moment in which conditions were created to allow Cidneo, one seventh of the area of the walled city, disused at the time and subsequently provided with the necessary infrastructure, to host other events a few years later and become home to permanent institutions.
